Tim Smyth - Blog Post

On our first day of school, we arrived at High School #2 at 7:30 a.m. and went straight to Chinese class where we learned how to say all of the body parts and then began to develop a script for our play. The play will be our final project for the trip. When we were given breaks between class, we were allowed to walk around the beautiful campus where we could watch the koi fish swim in their little pool, play basketball, or ping pong. After our class, we attended a flag  raising ceremony where every student in the school came out onto the soccer field to salute their flag (along with a lengthy speech in which none of us could understand).
After class, we took our first Beijing excursion trip to Beihai Park. It is home to many little palaces, temples, and wonderful views. But unfortunately, the pollution was so thick and heavy that we couldn't see very far. However; we were able to catch a glimpse of the Forbidden City. Then, we went to a traditional Chinese family style buffet where we ate roast duck, rice, fried fish, etc. Our last trip of the day was to an acrobat show. It was a great experience where we got to see many incredible sights such as 8 motorcyclists riding up and down in a caged circle at the same time. I think that our short time spent in Beijing so far has been spent in a fun and entertaining way where we are all able to enjoy each other's company; I  am very happy to be here right now.
